Problems, Ailments, and Symptoms Related to Colon Health
We have to realize that our colon health or lets say our digestive system that is from our stomach to the anus has the greatest contributing factor of what we are physically outside! Or perhaps even mentally! If we are made as a plant, our colon would act as our roots. The plant grows healthy when the roots are nurtured. We can see its leaves shining, flowers are blooming and fruits of a tree is plenty and healthy. A human too grows healthy when the intestine is healthy. You can see it through a healthy skin, shiny hair and an energetic body. A lot of digestive problems affect our physical well being and even mental degeneration. How often do we take care of our colon? Taking care of our colon is not something that we are used while growing up. Let’s discuss one by one several of the common symptoms a person with colon problems may experience. You may suffer one or two of these symptoms such as: Abdominal Gas or Flatulence.
Abdominal gas is cause by unnecessary intestinal bacteria. This bacteria is called methane. When food is not properly digested, methane bacteria produced an excessive amount of carbon dioxide and this carbon dioxide passes rapidly into the small intestine. The excessive amount of carbon dioxide in our small intestine is called the abdominal gas. When abdominal gas passed out to the large intestine and out to the rectum that gas becomes a flatus.
Abdominal gas also happen when carbon dioxide is trapped in the intestine due to fecal obstruction. When this happen, severe discomfort is manifested like abdominal pain, bloating and cramps. This gas has to go somewhere either as a flatus or in burping. Fecal obstruction in the colon increases the opportunity of these bacteria to ferment the undigested food, so if you are constipated gas and flatulence will follow.
Flatulence, though not a disease nor intimidating but can cause embarrassment especially when it passes out and you are in an acquaintance or talking to somebody. The unpleasant odor of flatus is characterized by trace gases called indole and skatole. These trace gases are attributed by bacteria methane.
Abdominal bloating. Abdominal bloating is an abnormal increase of the abdominal area. A person who suffers abdominal bloating feels a taut abdomen, which causes abdominal pain. Abdominal bloating is not fatal abdominal disease but patient who suffers abdominal bloating may also suffer from gastrointestinal disease like dyspepsia IBS, constipation, bowel obstruction and abnormalities in the abdominal wall. Abdominal bloating happens when the intestine increase its size due to stools or hard feces that has been kept for a long time. When our intestine is full of unwanted materials such as feces, the abdomen will expands and the abdominal pressure increases when abdominal pressure increases our diaphragm is pushed higher to our chest thus causes abdomen to be bloated.
Constipation. All of us have experienced constipation. Some are occasional constipation but to others is severe constipation. What ever the degree of your constipation, it is not healthy when you are constipated. Constipation is associated with hard feces that are difficult to remove and bowel movement is very painful. Usually there is seldom urge to remove bowels and sometimes this urge is absent. In severe cases constipation leads to obstruction of feces in the colon this term is called obstipation. Constipation is easily diagnosed. Stools that are difficult to pass, dry and hard or sometimes feces are made up of hard small circles are common signs that you are constipated. A bowel movement that only happens three times in a week is also considered as constipation. What causes constipation? To understand the cause of constipation we should also understand how our colon works. Our colon (large intestine) get rids of the water from the feces to make it solid in structure. Our colon also gets rid of the stool. Constipation happens when the stool passes the large intestine timidly or very slowly.
Diarrhea.
