What to do when suffering ulcerative colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes sores and inflammation on the lining of the colon and rectum, this sores and inflammation is called ulcers. UC is categorized as an inflammatory bowel disease and is also hard to diagnose because its symptoms are alike to other intestinal diseases like Cronh’s disease. Ulcerative usually starts at 15- 30 but it can occur on any ages; it affects men and women equally and appears to be genetically related disease.

Since ulcerative colitis is a disease that may lessen your appetite that may lead to weight loss, poor vitamins and minerals absorption, you should maintain a healthy diet for better disease management. Just like others, you also need to have a balance diet from this four food groups.

- Cereals and grains
- Fruits and vegetables
Your physician also may recommend dietary supplement like multivitamins, calcium(for nutritional deficiencies), iron (to fight anemia).
Here are some tips for your mealtime:
- Eat small servings of food all over the day, in stead of having large meals
- Eat only when you are hungry
- Relax when you eat, take small bites and chew your food thoroughly.
- Drink lots of fluids with your meal.
Some people with UC find out that eating some certain foods can make their symptoms worse. It is also important to know the foods that you should avoid when suffering from ulcerative colitis. With your physician’s help, you can determine which foods that you can eat happily and have a healthy diet that you will be able to enjoy.
